The trap in the word free

There are two kinds of QR code and the difference decides everything. A static code holds the payload in the pattern. A dynamic code holds a short link that redirects through somebody's server — which is useful, because the destination can be edited later, and dangerous, because the redirect is a service that can stop.

A great many free generators hand you a dynamic code without making that clear. It scans perfectly in the shop. Then the free tier caps at 500 scans, or the 14-day trial ends, and every printed copy resolves to an upgrade page. The code was never yours.

Every location QR code this page makes is static: a geo: URI holding latitude and longitude is baked into the pattern itself. There is no short link in the middle, no account behind it and no server of ours involved once the file is downloaded — which is why it cannot be switched off.

Because the payload is self-contained, a scan works with the phone in flight mode. Nothing is fetched, so nothing can fail.

So what is the catch

We are a marketing and web development studio, not a SaaS company. These tools are the clearest demonstration of how we build, and some of the people who use them later need a website or a campaign. That is the entire business model, and it does not require anything from you.
